The Cat Sleeps...Still
I once went by the handle sleepingbasementcat. I took the name after the cat we had, once found sleeping in the basement of our house, looking peaceful and adorable. I used the handle for some of the music I was making at the time. I was messing around with tapes (yes, cassette tapes), sampling, mangling, chopping and screwing up sounds and passing them on to a friend who would layer more stuff on top, or make something for the other side of the tape.
Once I even got a track on a massive compilation for RRRecords. I never really did much after that because of life events. Somehow one of those co-produced tapes was chronicled on a site featuring music from Ontario in the 90s (about halfway down).
Fast forward more years than I care to count, and I’ve been returning to the idea of making some kind of music/noise. I’ve been playing around with VCV rack and finally decided to actually record some of the sounds coming out of it and post them somewhere. Of course, choosing a name for the project was a no brainer, so the basement cat sleeps again…still.
